Who am I?

My full name is Pradheet Roychoudhuri. Yes, it’s a mouthful, but I’m pretty sure that I am the only person on earth with this name. Not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing.

Who am I and where do I come from?

But moving on to some details about me.

I was born in the beautiful city of Bombay (now Mumbai) where I spent most of my youth. Despite where I may end up, Mumbai will always be home to me. If you are planning a trip there, and I happen to be in town, feel free to hit me up and I might just be your city tour guide:

Since 2010 however, I have been roaming the globe, as part of my previous profession as a marine engineer. Since I’ve often been asked about my life at sea, sailing on board cargo ships for months at a stretch, I would love to save you thousands of words worth of reading and show you the following pictures.

After my Bachelors in Marine Engineering and about six years of travelling the world, where I think I managed to step foot on every continent except Antarctica, I moved to Germany in 2016. Here I completed my Masters in Management Science in the University of Magdeburg, following which I joined tecRacer.

How did I get to tecRacer?

Like so many of my colleagues, my first contact with tecRacer was at the Hamburg job fair in 2020.

With my maritime background, I was actually in Hamburg looking for a suitable position back in the marine industry. I hadn’t even thought of the possibility of getting into IT. It just seemed too far fetched for me with my background. Yes, I had done some programming during my engineering studies and had programmed certain business cases, including a simulation for my master thesis. However, I had never really considered this to be enough.

Hence, I was extremely, but positively, surprised when Timo and Felix mentioned that the tecRacer team is diverse and backgrounds don’t mean much as long as we have the potential to excel at what we do. Well, I was all but convinced. I attended the world famous(at least it should be) tecRacer applicants’ acquaintance day, following which, here I am.

My experience with tecRacer

I’m coming close to completing one year with tecRacer now. The one thing that truly stands out for me in my overall experience with tecRacer is the wonderful camaraderie between all the diverse colleagues. Thanks to this, I believe that we form a really strong mutually supportive team, that creates an environment of curiosity and learning.

Reflecting back, I remember that I had no knowledge of Cloud Computing, and had barely heard of AWS before joining tecRacer. Now I am consulting customers and developing data analytics infrastructure solutions, which are in use in production.

Furthermore, I had just about started learning the German language in my free time. I held a presentation in German, for the first time in my life, on the applicants’ acquaintance day. Now, although my German is far from perfect, I am confident in my customer facing role where German is the official language of communication.

Bottom line

Saying that my experience at tecRacer has been good would be an oversimplified understatement. What I have been able to enjoy in practice at tecRacer is almost exactly what I consider to be an ideal work environment. There is strength in diversity, where differences are welcome, curiosity is encouraged and support is always at hand, fostering an environment of learning and making difficult goals easy to achieve.
